Congressman-elect Suozzi Announces Congressional Staff

Glen Cove, NY – Tom Suozzi, the Congressman-elect for New York’s third Congressional district, announced appointments of new members to his Congressional staff.

“This is a professional, qualified staff with both local and Washington experience, and a commitment to public service,” said Suozzi. “Everyone is talented, dedicated and has demonstrated an ability to go above and beyond to get things done.”

Mike Florio – Chief of Staff. Mr. Florio began his career in Washington 14 years ago and recently served as the campaign manager for Suozzi’s successful bid to replace retiring Congressman Steve Israel. A Long Island native and resident of Bethpage, Florio is a veteran of Suozzi’s Nassau County Executive Administration and a former Nassau County Legislative staffer.

Diane Shust – Legislative Director. Ms. Shust, an attorney, and formerly a professor at Georgetown Law for twenty years, is currently the Chief of Staff for Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-7), a position she’s held for the past 8 years. A 30-year veteran of DC, she was previously the director of government relations at the National Education Association, Legislative Counsel to former Congressman George Miller and Legal Counsel for the Select Committee on Children, Youth and Families.

Cindy Rogers – District Director. Ms. Rogers, also an attorney, served as Mayor Suozzi’s first Deputy Mayor of Glen Cove. She has over 13 years of experience on Capitol Hill, most notably, as a Legislative Assistant and Staff Attorney for Senator J. Bennet Johnston. Most recently, she served as the Family Services Coordinator for the City of Glen Cove’s Youth Bureau.

The number one priority for Suozzi is getting things done for his constituents. In addition to Rogers, Suozzi has already hired two district based caseworkers who have shown an ability to effectively deliver results.

Edward Aulman – Veteran’s Services Caseworker. Mr. Aulman is also the former Director of Nassau County’s Veteran’s Services Agency. He is a Marine and Vietnam veteran that achieved the rank of first lieutenant in battalion intelligence. He is also the former President of the New York State County Veterans Service Officers Association.

Barrie Stevens - Constituent Services Caseworker. Ms. Stevens, a graduate of Harvard and Columbia Universities, with a Master’s Degree in education, served as the Co-Director of Suozzi‘s Suffolk County campaign. Previously, she was a professor of English Literature at Stony Brook University.

Conor Walsh – Legislative Assistant. Mr. Walsh, a lawyer and Fordham Law School graduate, served as the Policy Director for Suozzi’s Congressional campaign.

Ellie Arbeit & Meghan Sullivan – Staff Assistant. Ms. Arbeit, a recent graduate from Tulane University with a master’s degree in Global Health Management and Policy, and Ms. Sullivan, a recent graduate from Brown University with a degree in political science.

The 3rd Congressional District covers northern portions of Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties. Tom Suozzi was elected on November 8th and will be sworn in on January 3rd as a member of the 115th Congress.
