Congressman Tom Suozzi has built his career as a reformer, willing to take on extremists in both parties and work with anyone of good will—within his own party or across the aisle—to get things done for the people he serves.

Trained as both an attorney and CPA, Suozzi represents New York’s 3rd Congressional District, covering parts of Long Island and Queens. In 2024, he was one of only two Democrats to flip a congressional district that President Trump also won.

Suozzi serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax, trade, tariffs, and major social-service legislation. He was also recently appointed by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to the House Select Committee on China, reflecting the trust Democratic leadership places in him on issues of national security and economic competitiveness.

He is Co-Chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, where he has been a leading advocate for consensus-driven, common-sense solutions.

Throughout his career—from serving as Mayor of Glen Cove from 1994 to 2001, to eight years as Nassau County Executive from 2002 to 2009, to his work in the private sector, and ultimately his election to Congress in 2016—Suozzi has earned a reputation as a common-sense public servant focused on solving problems and getting things done.

Suozzi recently helped launch The Promise to America, a pledge built around six principles: capitalism, not socialism; safety, not lawlessness; fiscal responsibility, not recklessness; a government that solves problems, not creates them; mainstream, not extreme; and pride, not shame, in America. The pledge is designed to re-center the Democratic Party around mainstream values and a constructive, solutions-oriented vision that can resonate in swing districts across the country.

Reform has been a recurring theme throughout Suozzi’s public life. In 2004, he created FixAlbany.com to expose and root out corruption in New York State government. In 2005, Governing magazine named him its “Public Official of the Year.” In 2007, he was appointed by the Governor of New York to lead a state commission that proposed the state’s first property tax cap, an idea that ultimately became law. In 2008, the New York League of Conservation Voters named him “Environmentalist of the Year.”

Before being elected to Congress, Suozzi was a senior advisor at Lazard. Earlier in his career, he served as a litigator at Shearman & Sterling, a federal court law clerk, and an auditor at Arthur Andersen.

Suozzi lives in Glen Cove with his wife, Helene. They have three children: Caroline, Joseph, and Michael.
